I really appreciate him in the film, to anyone who have doubts abt him playing Kou due to his age, I think once you will see this film, it will change your perspective. Masahiro is Kou, the way he talks, the way he acts, the way he stands, you'll see Kou all over him:)) There's actually a documentary of him & it showed how he took seriously this role; there's a scene where Futaba knew abt his mother & hugs him, Masahiro still cried even after the camera stop rolling & stayed away from the crew & staff because thats how that scene made an impact to him. When I knew abt that I thought that I am glad that Masahiro is Kou bcos he knows how to act & takes Kou seriously as a character.Futaba Yoshioka: A 17-year-old teenager and the main protagonist of the story, Futaba is suffering from identity crisis and social anxiety. She is led to believe that her popularity among boys is the reason behind her being ostracized by her classmates and she proceeds to demean and look down upon boys who had a crush on her in an attempt to be popular. She is still not able to connect with her classmates, and that is when she meets her old friend Yuri and her long lost lover, Kou. She develops a special bond with Yuri and the two of them eventually become best friends. Ressler, Karen (30 March 2018). In middle school, Futaba and Kou become attracted to each other. Kou invites her to the summer festival, but after their classmate questions their relationship, Futaba impulsively claims she hates all boys. Kou doesn't show up at the summer festival, and by the time summer vacation is over, Futaba finds out that he has moved to Nagasaki. i saw some comments saying that the live action are really different on the anime, actually it's not. the anime version is not done yet but i think the important scenes that shown in it got include on the live action. the other half of the movie that looks unfamiliar for those who only watched the anime are actually also part of the manga, the only difference is they focused only on Kou. so i think it's really better if you read first the manga before watching this movie. a b c d Loveridge, Lynzee (11 February 2014). Reviews

I finally watched it. The thing at the beginning half seems rushing. If I never watch the anime, I wouldn't be able to capture well of the storyline and relationships. But after Kou meets Narumi, things begins to cooled down a bit. Cried after half the overall time. WEBサイトでのオリジナルコンテンツや、キャストのサイン入りSPプレゼントキャンペーンを実施!". Animate (in Japanese). 18 August 2014. The entire plot of ‘Blue Spring Ride’ revolves around the antics of Futaba Yoshioka, a 17-year-old high school student suffering from an inferiority complex. Despite being a popular girl in school and the object of desire for many guys around her, she fails to connect with the girls around her constantly. She tries to fit in with the crowd by taking part in activities that other normal girls take part in, but to no avail. In a desperate attempt to fit in, she begins to undermine and demean the guys around her, thinking that it will lead to more attention from her female classmates. There is a history of her peers being jealous of all the attention that she gets from the guys and she feels that such rash behavior will change their mindsets.
