Thirty-one delightful pictures to color with dozens of objects, people and animals hidden away to find: mice, rabbits, seals, flag, sailboat, umbrella, ghosts, mermaid, faces, etc. It starts off as a more traditional thriller, but then evolves into an increasingly eerie supernatural horror show, featuring actual renderings of Teddy’s drawings that are deeply unsettling (I wish I’d sprung for the physical copy of the book for this reason). As the story goes along, things become more sinister which causes things between Mallory and Teddy’s parents to become strained. Having the story told by Mallory, embodied by narrator Suzy Jackson, also really draws listeners into the story. Whip-smart, creepy as hell, and masterfully plotted, Hidden Pictures is the best new thriller novel I’ve read in years.

However, in comparison to previous thrillers I have read, and also the expectations that I had, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I connected with this quite a bit since I have 2 young boys so I could put myself in this situation and it seriously gave me the creeps. I’m telling you there is zero chance of Mallory not knowing the truth within hours of starting her job.Many people have given this book four and five stars so judge for yourself, it just might be a case of me not being the right person for the book.
